FAQ

1) What makes Centerpoint different from other learning programs or traditional schools?

Every child who enrolls in a Centerpoint program has an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) to guide their learning. This plan is developed by Centerpoint staff in partnership with parents and the student. It includes strengths, areas for growth, interests, learning style, accommodations needed to be successful, and learning preferences. The ILP is our guide for teaching and learning, whether it's in our Pods, Studios, or Tutoring program. This makes learning more tailored to your child's needs, with students working toward mastery of skills and receiving targeted support, flexible pacing, and meaningful learning experiences that align with their interests and goals.

2) How do you partner with families?

We believe parents are a child's first and most important teachers, so we rely on their expertise when determining what is best for their child. We also collaborate with families in developing an Individualized Learning Plan for each student. You can expect regular communication about progress and quarterly "Partnership Days," where we meet with families and the student to discuss progress and collaborate to re-evaluate goals.

3) What services do you offer?

We offer a range of flexible options, which you can mix and match to meet your child's and family's needs. This includes a microschool program with a very imited class size (Centerpoint Pods), a homeschool enrichment program (Centerpoint Studios) and a tutoring program. Each of our programs is described on the "Services" page.

4) How does Centerpoint complement what I am doing as a homeschooler?

Enrollment in our Pods and Studios program exceeds the requirements to homeschool in the State of Colorado. Centerpoint staff acts as a tutor for your child, while you remain a homeschool parent, responsible for ensuring that required paperwork (Notice of Intent to Homeschool) is filed with a district in Colorado. We will support you in filing the appropriate paperwork with information about curriculum, etc. and also provide the academic testing required by the state for homeschoolers.

5) Do you follow a specific curriculum for Centerpoint Pods?

For Math and Reading instruction, we use a blend of online learning tools and one-on-one or small group instruction. This allows for initial instruction in what your child is ready to learn next and then additional supports and hands-on practice of concepts with a teacher. All students will begin the year with similar online learning tools and once we assess your child's needs, we may shift the tool to better match their needs. For Science and Social Studies, we expose students to grade level concepts and then have them do deeper "dives" into areas of specific interest through Project Based Learning. Writing is taught in conjunction with all projects.

6) Is Centerpoint a faith-based program?

Yes. Centerpoint Learning is Christ-centered, and our values reflect a biblical worldview. While we don't teach a specific Bible course, we do integrate faith in a way that is meaningful, age-appropriate, and woven into daily learning. Families are not required to be Christian to enroll in our programs, but they should be willing to support their child's exposure to faith-based concepts.

7) What does a typical day look like in Centerpoint Pods?

You can find our flexible daily schedule here. It is structured enough to create a consistent learning environment for students and flexible enough that we can shift to meet student needs when necessary. To a classroom observer, it will look like no two students are doing exactly the same thing during core instruction time (Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science)! Because no two students are the same, it will be rare that students are receiving core instruction in the same skill. In addition to instruction in core subjects, you will also see times for students to work together to grow their collaboration skills and free time to get to know classmates and develop their social skills.

8) How do you track progress?

At Centerpoint, we are far more concerned with growth in skills and knowledge than an accumulation of points. Our programs are based on student mastery of grade-level skills and knowledge. Rather than traditional grading, grades are based on where a child is in their journey of mastering those skills. For every reporting period, we will assign a proficiency level indicating what level of mastery a student has reached in each grade level skill. (4 = Advanced/Exceeds, 3 = Proficient/Mastery, 2 = Basic/Approaching, and 1 = Below Basic/Beginning). This grade will be based on a variety of  factors: observation, progress in online Math and Reading programs, verbal or written assessment, etc. Students will not be surprised by their proficiency level as we will routinely conference with them about their goals and they will be part of tracking where they are on grade level skills.

9) Where are you located?

Centerpoint Learning is located in a SE Fort Collins residential neighborhood, providing a warm, home-like environment that supports focused learning, strong relationships, and a sense of community.
